Selling some of my treasures and art from my travels over the years .. trying to raise funds for a new/used truck so that I can continue to gather plant medicines.
Many of you know that for years I was one of the top Meteorite Hunters/Dealers in The World. Recently, I came across this beautiful Dimmitt stone meteorite in one of my treasure boxes.. it weighs 725 grams and the current value of such a stone meteorite would be around $2500.00!! So this is a bargain. You can google Michael Cottingham Meteorites if you want to see who I was back then ...
I personally recovered this one myself from the Dimmitt, TEXAS area in 1995
Unequilibrated ordinary H chondrite, brecciated (H3.7; S3; W4)
Found, 1942; ~200 kg, many stones
Dimmitt is a blackened regolith breccia dominated by H3 and H5 clasts (40 vol%?) and a dark clastic matrix which together account for ~95% of the meteorite's volume. Impact melt rocks (3%) and non-H chondrite clasts (1-2%) account for most of the remaining content. The major constituents and their compositions are typical of the ordinary H (high iron) chondrites — olivine (Fa29), low Ca pyroxene (Fs24Wo1) [mostly orthopyroxene], Fe-Ni (3.1 wt%) [including kamacite with 2.8 wt% Co]. The complex textures and minor inclusions, however, point to prior near-catastrophic disruption on the original parent body before a 'daughter' fragment was ejected with constituents destined for an eventual earth encounter.
Weight: 725 grams
